I am using a wireless connection and everytime I connect to the internet, my computer hangs and I have to restart the pc again.

you might have a driver issue, When i did microsoft tech support I wuold get calls from users who upgraded their system and could no longer browse, as soon as they tried to move the mouse it would hang. This was a video driver issue.
I don't know what / where your system is hanging. But it won't hurt to make sure you have the latest video and audio drivers.

bad hardware or bad software

in this case, if I understand you correctly, these computers share a modem over a wireless connection so if that is true, it can't be the modem (the other computer is fine with the same modem), for hardware, that implicates the wireless sender

more likely is the software

I would first try re-installing the wireless device driver

good luck and hoping its not a mother-board problem
