it's 1.45. change the percent into decimal -- that is, all percents are 100ths. so 145% is 1.45. then multiply by 174, and you will get your answer: 120. to check, multiply 120 by 145%; the answer is 174.

Your friend is correct. It should be 1.45 because 145% = 145/100 = 1.45

Multiply 174 by 1.45 = 252.3

when you change a percentage into a decimal you move the decimal 2 places to the left... for example..

100 % = 1.00
50% = .50
145 % = 1.45

You loose ... your friend is right

AAGH. I HATE when people write math problems or use percentages that are are larger than 100 percent. You cannot have more than 100 percent of something.

Anyway... your friend is correct. Think of it this way -- 100 percent of ANY number is that number... so it's like multiplying it by 1.
