Counseling isnt for everyone and yes it has helped many but not all. First counseling will only work if both parties are truly interested in saving their marriages but just cant work out some problems between them. Counseling basically lets both parties see and solve their problems by themselves and together with the help of a counselor offering only advice. There is no guarantee of a good outcome after counseling but offers good insight into marital problems and options into working them out. But the biggest part is both wanting the same outcome and going into it with an open mind and heart and the knowledge that counseling is not a cure-all for maritalproblems and may not work. Good luck

Me and my husband have been to 3 different marriage counselors and none of them have helped us. The most important thing that you have to realize is that when you go there is that you both want to change your lives. That you both need to compromise and that you both need to work toward making the marriage better. You cannot go in there blaming each other because it will not work out at all. You both have to listen to each other and more important be honest with each other. Also find a counselor that you both can agree on. I wish you good luck but don't hold your breath on marriage counseling working for you. You are already in the direction of a divorce or separation. Good Luck to you anyway!

I always thought it was a way to clearly understand why you are getting a divorce. And also a means to get a third party opinion. People always say go to counseling , but I think only a very , very small percentage of people are successful at saving their marriages when it gets to that point. Almost everyone I know has ended up divorced. Actually one couple was successful , they where dating for like 5 years and went to counseling. they eventually got married and are still to this day. So , I know of one.

Counseling works if there is "problems", please keep in mind counseling dose NOT change character. A person needs to change his or her owe character. For ex: if your husband does not like to do dishes, that a problem that can be fix in counseling. Cheating on your partner is a character, which can not be fix by counseling.

It can work when:
both people WANT it to work
if you get to it in time
When you find the right therapist......usually not the first one you meet.
When you BOTH do the work to make changes.

yes it has saved marriages
