It is easy to prove misconduct against a lawyer, as everything should be documented, and many of the exchanges will have been recorded as legal record...assuming - as I mentioned - that anything has been done wrong.
The new lawyer you consult should similarly document their advice, as well as explain why your case does or does not have merit. They will, of course, bill you either way.

You could contact your local Bar Association to get a recommendation on an attorney who specializes in Legal Malpractice. The American Bar Association has a set of standards that apply to all lawyers, and they will know if an attorney in your area has expertise in that area of the law.
Expect to pay a retainer fee.
