When I shift gears on my honda f3, there is a fairly loud clunk as it shifts into place. What is this noise? Does something need to be repaced or adjusted?

Had the same issue on my buddies VFR.
He changed the oil and used Mobil VTwin 20w50. Noise was minimize. The KrautRocket (bmw k1200rs) also makes clunking noises and that sucker has 90w supersyn gear oil in the tranny.

Most riders would say - get a loud exhaust... then you won't hear it!

Change your oil and filter.
Drain the oil in a clean drain pan to inspect for foreign particles.
If the noise goes away after the oil change, then fine.
If the noise remains, keep track of it. If it gets louder or harder to shift gears, then get it repaired.
Could be a worn shift drum or shift forks.
