I have digital camera software that will not fit on my laptop (160 MB) can I keep the software and pictures on an external hard drive? Don't get too technical, I know very little about computers.

Sure you can. You have to make sure to point the installation to the external hard drive letter. But yes, you can do it.

Concerning your question about the external HD:
YES YOU CAN, but there may be problems arising in the near future... but maybe not....
*******
If you want to install the digital camera software onto the external HD, that is OK, just make sure to install it onto the right drive though....
-----USUALLY (not always) the HD inside your computer is labeled as "C". The CD/Floppy disk is "D" and any extra drives start with "E" or "F" (this is not always so)
*******
If your external HD appears as Drive "E" or "F", just make sure to change the installation destination (where the software will install) to somewhere in the "E" or "F"
*******
Possible problems:
**
Your laptop is portable, and has a battery.... most external HDs do not! (however, the small ones do) This means that in order to use your digital camera software, you must be in range of an outlet (to plug in the external HD)
**
Also, if your laptop can't accomodate 160 MB of extra space, you need to clean that thing out or upgrade it..... that thing must go slower than a Windows '95!!!
*******
For more information on how to clean out your system or more detailed (simpler) instructions on what I have written, you can e-mail me at Duckyquack2007@yahoo.com -- just be sure to put something in the subject line so I know who you are...otherwise, it just gets deleted.....

I hope this helps

GOOD LUCK!

Of course you can, just make a folder on that drive and point the installation there when you're offered the option to pick an installation path. The catch, however, is that you have to make sure (from Device Manager) that your external drive will always be assigned the same drive letter on each reconnection. Otherwise the shortcuts won't point to the right path anymore when you reconnect and all the paths saved in the registry become invalid (as well as your registration probably).

You can, but you may have issues if your computer tries to access something on that drive when it is not plugged in. You would also have to make sure that when plugged in, the drive is always assigned the same letter as it was when you installed the software.

Yes, but its kinda technical.

depends alot on which kind of external media your using.

Also... 160mb for digital camera software sound Excessive. There are other programs, that can probably do what you need in alot less disk space.
