Well first of all most rap artists have no talent. Anyone these days think they can rap. Hence the phrase rap is crap. There are some that have real talent though, whose music I enjoy. Then most songs are about sex, violence, drugs, and alcohol. Its horrible. Now not only do I have to find a song that I like (which is hard) but then I have to listen to what their saying too. That narrows the good songs down to about 2%. Its sad but there is nothing good on the radio anymore.

It Depends on the age if you are 5-11 then your child should not listen to the negitive rap but if you are 12 and older then you cant blame the rap for your actions because everybody is their own person and they are going to do what they want to do. Is rap bad well some of it is and some of it is ok to listen to.

cursing.....no, your child will be exposed to cursing soon enough at school, and i can't see how swearing, a form of expression, if used in the right context, is a bad thing
violence.....again, this is stupid. has no effect on kids. they're talking about carrying guns. how the hell is a kid gonna get a gun in the uk?
Chit P made a good point but for some reason two people gave her a thumbs down
anyway, most of these "kids" are actually teenagers and not as impressionable as many people seem to think
VIVA LA HIP-HOP!

Why should it be bad for young people?? Plenty of white people rap bout the same stuff i.e Eminem is a big part in this. Its just an image they are portraying to sell records, which shouldn't be read into too much.

Personally, I choose not to listen to us because I don't think it has much substance. The themes are all the same, "money, bling, cars, profanity, and exploiting women." There are some true hip hop artists with lyrics that are worth listening to, but you won't find most of them on Billboards top 100, you have to search for them. I would not want my child listenting to that music. It gives them the wrong impression about life, money, sex, and anything else they rap about, and hinder the progress of blacks in this country.

Depends on what group you are listening to. Some of it is terrible for our children to listen to and some of it is very uplifting. If you are looking for some good rap I would check out Digable Planets, De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest, OLD Black Eyed Peas, and Mos Def. It's all good hip hop.

To the person above me, my son assures me that Linkon(sp??) Park most definitely cusses.

just like rock is.. AND movies and TV and social influences including the president promote cursing and violence AND I think ..people who think that rap is the root of all evil are ignorant to the media influence and are simply bashing successful black Americans ..look at the big picture for a change

What kind of dumb question is this? Is country bad, is rock bad, is alternative with all its mentions of suicide bad? How about kids that have a grudge and come to school and shoot up innocent classmates? Are they bad? Do they listen to rap (I think not, they get hopped up on Korn and Papa Roach and do the deed) Why would a style of music be bad? The lyrics can be, but the not whole style.

Your question comes out of pure ignorance, even though I don't care for rap.
Calling it "black rap" is extremely ignorant.
There are rappers that aren't "black",.
And there are other forms of music that are bad for young people.
I'm in love with a song called, Shattered.
One line: "After I pull out my tongue, tie it around my neck hang myself alone in the dark."
STFU.
Poor people suck.
