Prozac is an SSRI, and a common SSRI side effect is change in weight. Each person's response is different and the underlying reason attributing to the weight gain or loss varies too.

Generally weight loss is temporary at the start of treatment and weight gain is more prolonged through out use. As far as SSRIs go, Prozac does not effect weigh as much as others do; however, it makes up for this in the sexual dysfunction arena.

Because SSRIs are prescribed for depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD and a variety of other symptoms that cause weight gain or loss on their own--there are too many random variables that confound the proving of such direct correlation.

as a matter of fact, changes in weight are a common sid effect of fluoxetine. But it's different for everybody. Some gain weight, some lose weight. You won't know which one you're going to be until you've been on it, but you could go either way.

I honestly don't know. I hope you're not considering taking it just for that. But I do know that when I took Prozac, it made me angry. And I'm not the only one who has experienced this. So, if you want to be a skinny *****... go ahead. Lol. Sorry, I just don't like the drug. As for weight loss... I doubt it could directly relate to that. But who knows, I guess maybe when you're angry you burn more calories.. lol
