Women have to bear a child, and raise a child for some time before it can fend for itself. This is a big, long-term responsibility. If they are going to choose a man to create this situation, he better be damn good.
Also, women are looking for a man with good genes to pass on to their offspring. So he better be damn good.
Men on the other hand are looking to spread their genetic material over a broad area (many women, many babies) and are not so selective, as long as their genetic immortality is secured.
That old riddle of 'why is it OK for men to sleep with loads of women, but not OK for women to sleep with loads of men' has is foundations in these facts. Society, culture and medicine have distorted these facts and created 'marriage, relationships and contraceptives', but the facts still remain biologically, and really cannot be changed.

Because men are more visual and that tends to overshadow everything else when it comes to selecting a partner. This initial default almost always wear off after a short period. Women on the other hand, although also judging by the visual, are apt to do two things at once, such as admiring looks and sampling personality as well.

It is believed that women look at instances and circumstances with a less emotional and more "logical" outlook. Women are also believed to be more practical when it comes to relationships because women have a sense of caretaking from their child bearing abilities. Women are more emotional in conversations, with men, and like to be held, cuddled, and complimented (true of some women), but that usually happens after the partnership is formed. Women have a more practical and selective outlook at the onset because they know what it is like to be needed, so it is natural to look for someone who can meet their needs as well.

In evolutionary psychology, women the higher investing gender and, therefore, are more selective. They bear nine months with children and more to raise them. They are looking for a partner who will take care of them and their offspring. If they were unselective, they would be alone in rearing children because their mate is off to impregnate another woman with his "seed."

More selective then what? And why shouldn't they be selective? Since marriage is supposed to last a lifetime, women (and men) have a right to be selective.

it's not that we are selective were just looking for love! oops TRUE LOVE so we find a lot of fun people along the way and meat up with true connections but untill you find TRUE LOVE males and felmales will both be searching...
and if you consider searching being selective then think again...

They are wanting a relationship that will last, and not have to worry about divorce or separation. Every woman that i've known wants to live that dream of finding prince charming and living happily ever after.
