Who really knows? One of my best friends is getting married next weekend to a guy she met online & has only known for a month. And she's marrying him because she doesn't believe people should live together unless they are married (but it's okay to just have sex). Some things just don't make sense!

If her family is religious, that is probably why. My husband wouldn't move in with me before we were married and when we did start living together after marriage there were many things that bothered me about the way that he does things. If I would have moved in with him before marriage, I can tell you right now, there is no way in hell we would have ended up getting married. But now the papers are all signed and I am stuck with him. I would advise you to live together first before a big committment like marriage because it is a lot harder to get divorced if you don't like something about their lifestyle or the way they do something that you don't notice until you live in the same place. It isn't illegal and no one is going to stop you so why not just try it, it is easier to move out then get divorced.

Well, for some people, it's a religious aspect. In my religion, it is severely frowned upon to live together before you're married.

Other people, it's more of less a security issue. Perhaps if there is a wedding band on your finger, you'll be less likely to walk out that door. Or, you won't get kicked to the curb, with no where to live.

Speaking from experience it is very hard road to live with a person you love without marriage. There is no sense of commitment. If things start to go wrong it is too easy to just say screw it and leave. Make sure your relationship is real strong if you want to live together without marrriage.

And if you love them enough to live with them why don't you love them enough to marry them?

Why? Well why not? Everyone's different.
In some people's mind, living together with no marital committment is sort of like......sucking on a lollipop for 2 hours and then......maybe you decide you dont' like it anymore and you want to give it back to the store. Make a choice and stick to it.

I don't think it's required anywhere, but there are a lot of people who disagree with it. Probably because most people feel that you should be married before you live with someone else.

Living together doesnt require real commitment.

I have lived with a man, and I remember thinking "well we can try this out, and if it doesnt work, then no "papers" to stop us from going on our merry lil' way.

Need i say more...

Some people are just old fashioned that way; some just feel that if you're really in love, why not go all the way? What's mine is yours and what's yours is mine.
