I want a pda/pocket pc strictly, no phone capabilities like the treo. I know the one i want comes with Integrated 802.11b and Bluetooth. But I don't have a wireless connection or hotspot at my office (it's not allowed). Is there any other way I can access the internet? Perhaps connecting thru bluetooth to my phone, which does have wireless through the Cingular service? Will that work? Or is there any other way of getting online with a PDA/Pocket PC?

I've used Bluetooth on my Dell Axim x51v to connect to the web through my Cingular 2125 and my wife's Razr.

You have to have a decent data plan through your cel provider though.

Another solution if you have a PC with internet access and a USB port at work is to get a bluetooth USB adapter and install Activesync on the PC. I'm guessing if they won't allow a wifi connection, they the won't allow you to install active sync on a PC.

There are so many ways to get on 'Net from PDA, with older machines with PCMCIA, hooking up a wired network card is an option; even now WM 2003 still have a wired driver although there doesn't seem to be a market for either SDIO or CF to use wired cards; everyone in the industry is jumping on the wireless bandwagon.

ActiveSync of newer generation contains a mini version of Internet redirection suite, as a result, a PDA can go on using 'Net via the host computer with ActiveSync, older PDA either Microsoft or Palm can still find 3rd party PPP program to establish the software and run access 'Net from a sync conduit; in essense, non-WiFi methods are emulating a dial-up link but it obviously a fast link; this is how old Motorola-based Palms go on 'Net.

Bluetooth is just another synchronization conduit if you get down to the no-frill part, so anything a cradle does so can a Bluetooth link. That includes 'Net access.

Dell Axim x51v is on the leading edge of Pocket PCs. Just remember to disable its built-in WiFi.

The question is 'it truly is more advantageous acceptable for what you decide on or desire?" obviously, we received't answer that. those are all solid PDAs, yet they have slightly distinct time-honored applications. fingers are in reality digital variations of an afternoon planner- save and retreive information immediately, save reminders and alarms, etc. Pocket computers are in reality stripped down mini-laptops. they could do distinct the applications of a operating laptop or computer and artwork with many domicile windows information natively. both can do video games, photos, song, etc. even with the reality that there are more advantageous products of application written for the fingers. for my section, I personal a Tx and performance in no way owned the others, and chosen the Tx after doing my personal analyze. i love it and does no longer commerce it for both of the others.
