I know you are probably already in montreal but i will still list the names of clobs that I like. I guess it might help someone else.
On st-laurent street:
Rouge: it is a 2 floor club. The first floor has a bar feel to it. The music is alternative/80's/90's...bassically, no hip hop. the second floor is the actual club where they have all kinds of music so if you dislike one king, just wait a while and it will change. It is a more mature crowd( the club is 25+ but they rarely card people). There is no cover.
Ballroom : it has a chill atmosphere, the music is mostly house. It is a good place to go if you are with a big group of people. The crowd is mature. The cover is around 4$.
On crescent street (this street is know for its sougar daddys! It is in the heart of downtown so there are alot of turists that are there just to pick up)
Systems : Mostly hip hop and r&b. The music is pretty good. There is a cover of about 10$. The crowd is somewhat young (18-24).
Sir Winston churchill...Great place to hang out if you are a group. There is no cover so the place is often packed. Girls, beware, guys are not afraid to touch even if you are with your bf!! This is an interesting place to grab a beer in the afternoon.
Karina's : The music is great. The place is somewhat more classier than other clubs on crescent. It is mostly R&B music The crowd is in there early 20's. I know that there is a cover for this place but i have never paid it. There are always people infront giving out vip passes.
Other interesting places are Vatican, Newton, electric avenue(70's, 80's,90's music so older crowd).
For those latin lover out there...some good salsa spots are : salsatheque (peels street)..get there early to have room to dance...then leave to go elsewhere after 1...it become too crowded.
649 is on st-catherine right next to the salsatheque. the dance floor is huge and better quality than the salsatheque.
Cactus by far the best salsa place..good music, fun crowd and not too packed. Friday nights are great!!
Lastly some fun bars with dance floors are :
cheers ( it is been a little quiet lately), le belmont, le diable vert, sofa.
Oh and btw, the 1234 (de la montagne stree) is not a male strip club. It used to be a a very classy club but it has been going downhill for a while.
The male strip club is called 1281 (I think....)

being an X-montrealer, and grew up there, here is where you should go:
Crecent street, not far from Peel just a couple of blocks west, Sir winston club, Thursdays (on thursday it's packed)
Next to Crescent is Bishop, go to deja vu..super night club
This area is a "dress to impress" kinda place. Most clubs are within walking distance.
St cathrine and St Laurence...East of where you will be is where the "ladies of the night" hang out, in case u'r interested.
East of st laurence, is St Denis, the French area, also caters to gays and bi's. There you can dress as you like (or undress for that matter).
Don't miss the Super Sex on St Cathrine, one of the top notch clubs, Do I need to tell you what kind?
Don't go to 1234, its a male strip club. Have fun
You're right Travel girl, the male strip club is actually 281, on st cathereine, had to call som old gf's...tis been a while

You are staying in a great area of Montreal!!!! You are within walking distance of Rue Crescent.... which is a street with lots of good clubs... too many to mention here. There are also some good ones in the old city.... One that comes to mind (if it is still there) is the "Floorshaker" The place used to really rock.
Montreal is one of the best party towns in North America... Ask any english-speaking cabbie... he can also direct you.
