it doesn't ask for my portfolio, but can i give them a few samples?

There are probably hundreds of applicants applying for the job. The more professional your resume and portfolio looks the better your chances are. Give 3 personal and professional references. Good luck on your job search! The last one I applied for had over 100 resumes and I got the job.

You should ALWAYS answer the question they asked. SO, if they want three references, that's what you should give. Remember, on an employment application, they will typically be getting your supervisor information. So, select one PERSONAL and two PROFESSIONAL that would not appear any other place on the application, giving you a chance to include more names. Instead of giving portfolio samples, tell them in the cover letter that you would be happy to bring portfolio samples WHEN you have the interview. Think positive! It would also give you a reason to make a follow up phone call.

No, just give 3. Have 2 professional references and 1 personal one.
You can present your portfolio at your interview. If the employer wants to see your portfolio, he will ask you for it.
If you need more advice, the best thing to do is find a recruiter. They help with the entire employment process. Monster.com is a great place to look for them.

If it asks for three just give three. Also, contact your references, so they know they are your reference.
