We used to have strict segregation law in this country, would you feel more comfortable swimming in a public pool of all your own race, or eating in a restaurant with only people of your skin color?

People seem more comfortable when they are the majority or at least massed together. Even though the US outlawed segregation in 1964, when you go to movie theaters or parks or fast food restaurants, groups of people will voluntarily segregate themselves...how strange.
I feel uncomfortable when I am segregated. But I grew up in the north with many white, Asian, Latin and black friends. I think there is something wrong with people who don't have multi-racial friends.

I personally would not feel necessarily more comfortable because I have friends of many different races and ethnic groups, but I think as a whole, the races do not get along and want to be separated from each other. I think that's why many people are uncomfortable with the forced diversity being shoved down our throats in the media and in society these days. Variety is a good thing, but face it: most people are most comfortable with their own kind. This fares for marriage, friendships and social groups. This is why blacks on campus join black clubs and sororities and such. It's just what makes everyone feel safest. It's hard to think outside the box, and it's easier to stick with your own kind. People like to take the easy, comfy way out and are resistant to change.

Absolutely not, I love diversity . As other said it would just be so boring to only be able interact with certain people. I guess it just depends on where you live, I have and always plan to live in a very diverse community.

I think what needs to be done is something that makes other people feel more comfortable around other people. I think for the most part its moved forward certainly with the younger generation. Who realize skin color does not matter. We're all people

Heavens, what a boring place it would be if we were all segregated! We learn from our differences.

I would never have discovered any of the best Dim Sum restaurants in SF if I only felt comfortable eating with other gringos, and not knowledgeable Asians! :o)

No it would be stupid because no matter what racists people think we all need each others and depends upon are differences that help create this world i think people in america focus too much on skin color

Why? Is skin color something we can catch? Like, do you sit next to a black person and all of a sudden I CAUGHT THEIR BLACKNESS, OMG I'M BLACK TOO!? Or will they turn white or something?

Yes, that was sarcasm. Separating the races was rediculous. No one should have to go through that again. We're all menbers of one race; the *human* race.

Well, except for my mother-in-law. She should be made to sit *under* the bus.

No, that's just wrong. I have friends of ALL races. HOWEVER, doesn't it seem like usually we hang out with people of our race? If you look around your high school or w/e, you tend to see the races divided for the main part.....

It's better not to be segregated since we are now in the stage of globalization, we all have to adjust and accept our cultural differences.

No! You know, we talk about isolating ourselves as a nation, and now we're talking about isolating ourselves by ethnicity. No. Stupid. Bad. People should teach their kids (and themselves) to appreciate differences rather than hiding.

No. It would be boring to be surrounded by all the same people.
