the sum of two opposites is so fast to calculate because I'm assuming the opposites you're talking about are negative and positive intergers, like -9 and +9. to add those together would give you zero. Same of course for pairs like -8 and 8,etc.

Everyone calculation will have zero for an answer, because you're adding something and then taking the same thing away, which leaves nothing left.
