Being a Nihilist, I believe the only truly logical reason to be a good person is because being wicked will make you hate yourself and make others hate you. It's the only path to happiness.

That's not to say I personally don't value kindness, but I don't think the Universe could really care less about what you do. It's about if YOU care.

In my opinion morals are neccessary to keep society in some kind of 'working order'. If you look at various cultures over the world a lot of moral values overlap because these are the attributes that lead society to success. Morals also enable individuals to make life changing decsions etc, they provide a basis for behaviour as well as religion.

Eh, you could argue that being a good person makes the world a better place in general. Think about littering. It's an anonymous act (unless you get caught, which is rare), but it directly affects someone's life because (most likely) someone will eventually have to pick up that garbage, which is a decidedly shitty thing to have to do. I believe every decision that you make will have some sort of effect on someone's life.

I can't fault your logic, but I think you may not have taken it far enough. A shared moral code is one of the most basic neccessities for a stable society. Without common values, there is no basis for trusting your fellow citizen, and without trust civilization breaks down. It doesn't really matter what the morals are, just that most people agree to them.

Sorry why would a Nihilist actually care about what a community of people think? Isnt that against the entire idea?

Yes there is. I think morals make people and society better. Imagine living in a world where no one had any morals and had an "anything goes" type of thinking.

That is an infintile logic. Without universal giving and kindness there would be no hospitals, no charities and shear anarchy. You would not be sitting at your comfortable spot writting your free thoughts. Truth is universal, and that is all that sustains us for now.

Yes I care. What would this world be like if all of did not have morals! It would be like destroying everything in the world...

Of course there's reasons for morals! Everything would be a mess if no one had morals.

maybe in the 1950's, but now...Morals are a thing of the past in people, and people are by nature generally evil.

Beliefs and rules are what give society a certain amount of order.
