normally, major medical plans tend to be cheap. You can contact the insurance companies directly or through an insurance agent. There are also online sites which will list potential plans.

I have never heard of cheap health insurance. When I left one job and before I got another, I had to use the Cobra benefits from my last job to get health insurance. It was *a lot* of money -- it started at about $250 a month and then went up to $400 over the years when I was in college and really needed it for the prescription benefits. You can call different insurance companies and get estimates, and you should check to see if you have COBRA benefits through your last job. Sometimes you have to pay the premium in order to get the benefit to save yourself more money - if you have a health issue (which I do).

private insurance is expensive. I would try your state's medicaid program.
