Because sometimes it's simply too exhausting to always put 100% of yourself into something, especially a new friendship or relationship. If we get to know you and think you might be someone who will be in our lives for a little while, the superficiality will eventually melt away. Let's face it, everyone's been burned in relationships- I see being superficial as self-preservation!

Well. A lot of women feel they have to be and the reason is guys are looking at the vanity filled presentation instead of the regular looking, pleasant woman. Just the fact that you noted some women are superficial says you look at them and if they were not superficial would you look? I know some decent, loving, devoted, affectionate women who are by themselves because they are NOT superficial.

Because of so many superficial men women are being used so much and they see it go through it then they don't trust men because of it the next man who may not be superficial unfortunately may be the one to get the bad end od the stick!

That, my son, is like asking why so many men are a*s*sholes nowadays. Most women are perfectly fine. You must be meeting the wrong ones. You might want to check into how you present yourself when meeting a Lady. Note the capital letter. Treat every woman like a Lady and you'll get much better results.

Which woman/women are you referring to? Maybe they just don't feel that they can share their mind with you when you label them right away...many women put on a mask of superficiality in order to protect their privacy or emotional stability or just to avoid trouble. It actually takes a long time and close questioning to determine whether someone is really superficial or whether it is just an act.

Not all, but a great majority ARE very superficial
Its a problem of education and family values, that started to be lost more or less from 1950 on.
If you go to night clubs to know girls you are lost buddy. You should go to places where education,work, religious and family values are considered. This does not mean the girl will be boring or ugly. A person with moral values has no price.

Are men any less sperficial?
I think that's a general societal problem, stemming from materialism and a passive mentality nurtured on advertising and celebrity.

I know plenty of women who are not, myself included. Maybe you hang with the wrong crowd.
