Partially because in poorer societies, children are the main asset.

what makes those societies richer??

My answer is that both the mom & dad working leads to that, which leaves much less time for children.

People don't have all day to raise kids anymore- they take their kids to daycare, work all day- pick the kids up & rush off to the drive thru before going to the evening's activities...

it is exausting! There are only so many hours in a day & I gues sparents feel like they want to give as much as possible...so they ahve fewer to ensure that.

I don t remember if it was a Nobel Price of Economy ...

But he made a demonstration that shows that rich get richer, and poor get poorer.

If you are sharing your personal wealth among all your children, the more you have children the less they get money, and lesss chance for children to get richer

because they are all so absorbed in making the big bucks, that they bypass their fertile years, and a connection to something more substantial than worldly goods and money. they loose a connection to their humanity, so they forget about home, family, and by the time they realize that they have this hollow ache in their souls, that money and "things" can't fill, it's too late. sometimes then, they go to extremes to adopt foreign babies, hire surrogates to "do the dirty work" and the like. It seems that the "richness" of life is lost on the superficial, and life itself, then fades out & is ultimately extinguished.

More women are career orientated and less willing to be traditional housewives. People are generally better educated and more aware of family planning, which leads to a drop in the number of unwanted pregnancies.

People used to have big families because some of their children would die...you only have to look at China to see the pitfalls of having too many children.

I'm sorry, I don't quite understand. Is this some societal trend I am unaware of? People seem to be having gobs of children these days.

Perhaps, your question should be...

Why does having fewer kids lead to societies growing richer?
