I would rap them in a old magazine or bundle of news paper to keep them from poking out of bag when carried out. You could also put tape on blade to keep them from cutting also.

As others said you can pack it well and throw in the trash can, but the official way of disposing knives and guns, ammunition and such, is to bring them to your local law enforcement office. That is, assuming you're in US. No idea about other countries though.

Knives can be wrapped in newspaper, as many layers as necessary to prevent the knife from coming through. Tape the paper shut.

Take a newspaper or a few paper bags and wrap it up really well before you throw it in the trash can. That should prevent it from cutting through the bag and cutting you or the garbage man.

Are you asking how to dispose of them safely??? My suggestion would be to donate them to your local Goodwill/Salvation Army type place. You might also check to see if there is a scrap metal recycler handy, they can dispose of them for you as well. If that fails, you could simply wrap them in paper, then cardboard and tape, forming a nice hardened wrapping, and tape closed, then deposit in your waste receptical for disposal by your garbage collectors.

Just toss it in the trash can, or if the blade keeps coming open, put a rubber band around the blade and handle (while it's collapsed).
