In the movie Seven with Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman there is a scene with Freeman in a library.

He is looking for clues in books about Dante' and others regarding the seven deadly sins. Before he begins his research and as the scene begins, Freeman says to one of the guards

"I'll never understand you guys, here where you have such a wealth of information at your fingertips, and what do you do, Sit around and play poker all night...." then they sort of snicker and the guard says "you want culture, we have culture" he then puts on : Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D ma by Bach

my question now that the scene is set for you is what is the name of the library and where is it located in the United States? I guess all you really need to know is where the film was made... which is what I need your help with... good luck and ten points to the brave soul that gets this one right

The gloomy library in which ever-diligent Somerset bones up on the Seven Deadly Sins is the old disused Bank of America building at 650 South Spring Street. Another really familiar location, seen in films as diverse as John Schlesinger's Marathon Man, Ghost, manic Jim Carrey comedy The Mask, Prizzi’s Honor, St Elmo’s Fire and Spider-Man 2, and it’s also the law firm office where Lily Tomlin jumps into the body of Steve Martin in All Of Me.

Well, the movie was set in an unnamed city; however, the explicit identification of the film's setting are the words "Bardach County Jail" stenciled on the back of the killer's orange jumpsuit after he is booked for the first five murders he commits, and the appearance of the Chester Williams Building (Los Angeles, CA). The movie was filmed in and around Los Angeles, so the library in question is located there.

The filmmakers deliberately avoided saying in which city the film is set, but the library looks a lot like the main branch of the New York public library - other city scenes look a lot like portions of Chicago & Detroit, and the desert setting for the end looks very much like the High Desert northwest of Los Angeles (Victorville, Morongo Valley, Joshua Tree, etc.) - I wish I was able to check specifics for you, but my VCR died!
