Secretly they all do. The manufacturers pretend this doesn't happen but it is possible. If you overlook all those zany brands and acronyms all motherboards are just plastic, wiring, transistors, and a few connectors.

There was a webiste that had two 7900GT's on an ABIT AT8 32X and two Radeon 1900XT's on an ASUS K8N 32SLI

EDIT: Actually there is a slight difference: The SLI motherboards have an on/off switch for if you're going with one or two video cards. SLI video cards have a little "brace" that connect the two cards together for data or something, and Crossfire cards use a an external dongle (a Y shaped cable) to mash the two DVI outlets into one.

But in the end, all the cards are looking for is a motherboard with a pair of PCI Express lanes. If that's your motherboard you're good to go regardless of brand name.

I think it is one or the other not mixed chipsets
