I would like to learn how to knit. I have been looking for some good how to books. There are so many out there that it has become a bit overwhelming to choose. I am looking for up to date books with some fresh trendy patterns. So please no "grandma" patterns. Thank you!

I have to "second" the Stitch and ***** books. The books are fun to read and the projects do not look like they came out of you're Grandma's attic. Good luck!

Also...."Mason Dixon Knitting-The curious Knitters' guide." by kay Gardiner and Ann Shayne is a good read.

Good luck,
Ang

go to your local library and check out every knitting book they have, you can also go your libraries website and search for knitting books and request what ever ones grab your attention. It's a graet way to find and test books without having to spend your money and risk being disappionted with your choice, this way you can preview books try some patterns see if you like it and if you do than you can go buy some where. Knitting books are not by any means cheap and you should know what your buying and be 100% sure you'll be happy with it. Did you know that you can suggest book purchases to your library also? I hope this helps you, and good luck on finding a book you'll be happy with.

I am not a knitter. I buy knitting books for the library in which I work. These two came highly recommended by two library knitters:

Debbie Stoller "Stitch 'n ***** Nation" Debbie Stoller has other "Stitch 'n *****" book out. They come with very good illustrations and instructions. (there is a bad word in this title, but it's the title! I hope no one is offended)

Sharon Turner "Teach Yourself Visual Knitting" The illustrations here are very good as well. They show you step-by-step how to cast on, knit, and cast off.

Check out your local public library for more books. If you like them, then you can go to a book store and buy them!

check them out to see if the patterns are suitable for you! Granny squares or no granny squares! (oh, maybe that's crocheting!)

Yes! go to the library and check out Sally Melville's "The Knit Stitch."

It is the one book I would buy to give to a beginner. She covers all the basices, it's very well illustrated and the projects don't look "beginner."
