The atoms in the air ABSORB light paritcles from the sun. They absorb much more blue and violet than the rest of the colors. The blue light doesn't just bounce off of them they actually absorb the blue light. They use the energy from this light to bump up an electron to a higher orbit. (It's now an "excited" atom.) After a very brief time, the electron drops back to a lower orbit and the atom emits a light particle to get rid of the extra energy from the electron dropping back to a lower energy state. The amount of energy that is released in the form of a light particle by the drop of an electron from a higher to a lower orbital is the same as what it absorbed. Also, our eyes are set up in a certain way to see more of the blue light than violet or other colors (see link below.) More of the red, yellow, and other colored light, just goes straight through and hits the ground. So we don't see it when we look at the sky.

The sky only appears to the human eye blue because of the way light refracts. Hope this answers your question!

Because the molecules in the gases that make up our atmosphere (oxygen, nitrogen, trace others), reflect the blue end of the spectrum of visible light. If the composition of the atmosphere were different, the shy would appear a different color.

Because blue is a pretty color.And we dont want to have to look at a ugly sky .That would make everybody depressed . God wants us to be happy..
