Hint: Ignorance will not get any kudos from me. It's illegal to speed in the US today too. Do people sell cocaine in America? Hello?

Clearly few Americans are aware of the forms of slavery that exist in their own country today. I recommend educating yourself on the topic so that you can give an informed response. Part of the blindness is a matter of definitions. There is more than one form of slavery. In terms of only ONE form - direct ownership of other human beings as "property" (despite the odd behavior of both military and sports fans to claim to the contrary) - it would seem at least that slavery is indeed not only illegal, but not present. However, other forms - bondsmanship, indentured servitude, illegal imprisonment and use - DO seem to go unnoticed. Where are they and what shall we do about it?

Slavery is alive and well in the US in more forms than can easily be counted. The US was built upon slavery and is maintained today by slavery. Thus, we see how it is that the few at the top enjoy the American Dream while for most of the rest of us it's more like a nightmare!

You are absolutely right there are different forms of slavery that exists still this day. The one I will speak of is right in our very good ole Constitution, 13th Ammendment to be exact which states: Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, EXCEPT AS PUNISHMENT FOR CRIME whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
