On the top front, you will see a black piece of metal positioned between the engine and the front of the car, with a bolt going through each end. This is called in the mechanic's jargon slang the "dog-bone".
Buy it at your favorite parts store for < $15.00, and replace it. Takes no special tools or skill. Bolts out, replace, bolts in. Done.

Sounds like your motor mounts are either broken or the bolts on them are loose. You may want that checked out. Otherwise, it could be a jolt from your transmission slipping. There is no true way to diagnose it without seeing it, but have a mechanic check those out.

check motor mounts first,then trans and have them check your driveshaft and u-joints
