Is this for you to use?
what may well be unique to you is that you ask sensible questions on Answer - and (hopefully!) answer other people's questions without being rude or insulting, with an answer which makes sense!
This will be an icebreaker for a number of reasons, basically from what peope ask afterwards!:
What is Answer?
Why do you do it?
How does it help people?
What is your favourite category?
What %age of best answers do you have?
Do you do this at home or at work? (and I hope you know the answer to that!)
- oh, and I bet nobody comes up with this for an unique differentiation - and you are being totally honest with it, which makes it very believable! - and it will not make you an 'anorak' - what about that man from London who is a Man Utd fan?!
So I think this is something you can give truthfully!

I mentioned that I did bellydancing. People found this interesting funnily enough. I did give some details about the haflas (events were bellydancers performed routines). It got people talking. Try mentioning some kinda outside thing that you do into the conversation (skydiving, devil worshipping, whatever). Preferably something that you do for real that is, but a little bit out there. It lets people know that you have a whole other life outside work. good luck at your conference btw.

How about the truth.
This was a pretty difficult task - I ended up asking an internet forum for something to go on. Apart from a toilet, there were some great suggestions and I thought you would like this one...

Stick to what you know a lot about then you don't have to lie.
If you know nothing- which is most unlikely-. Just be yourself.
If that's not possible, I suggest you keep quiet...only kidding.
Of course you have imagination, you only lack confidence.
People usually only make small talk anyway, before getting down to business.

You might try talking about hobbies you enjoy or something you have done that has changed your life for the better.
It may or maynot be unique, but you will probably find coworkers with similar interests that will help form better bonds in the end.

If you are perceived as a "book worm" select something in your past that shows physical activity: I was on the swim team; I used to compete in ballroom dancing, my dad was a golf professional. If you are perceived as the active/athelet/on-the-go type, select something that shows your mental side: I was on the debate team, I am a published poet, I'm in a monthly book review group.....
