The reason is that there is a red shift in the spectrum of light. Certain chemicals will have given spectrum of light. If those frequencies are shifted toward red the object is moving away. If it is shifted toward blue (higher frequency) it is moving toward you. Red light has lower frequency. Since the light is shifted to red, that indicates the galaxies are moving away from us much as a train sounds lower (lower frequency sound) once it passes us. Since the speed of light is constant, the best way they could explain distant galaxies having a spectrum shifted to red is to theorize they are moving away. The more distant one shift more indicating they are travelling faster away. The theory to explain that they were moving away is that they originated in a big bang.
I reread this and absolutely concure with Dr. M. To me, using the red shift to justify the expansion just doesn't seem very compelling.

In physics, the Doppler result's the replace in frequency stated with the replace in waves (genuinely in a nutshell). The Doppler Shift, is almost about the Doppler bring about that that's a fashion to describe how a replace interior the perceived frequency may result if the observer strikes OR the source of the waves strikes. An celebration is a vehicle transferring faraway from you at the same time as continually honking its horn. because the vehicle strategies you, the sound intensifies and considering it strikes faraway from you the sound diminishes. because the Doppler Shift pertains to the seen ordinary spectrum, in many circumstances physicists confer with a pink shift, or an same colour shift in star structures. the colors of the seen ordinary spectrum all have signature colorations linked with a particular frequency of wave move. As you % up a wave frequency interior the seen decision you will see that it replace from say yellow to pink, indicting that its frequency has replaced. This argument has been utilized by making use of proponents of the massive Bang theory because the info of an increasing universe, even with the indisputable fact that searching on the pink shift ought to require first accounting for the unique colour it shifted from and this hasn't ever been considered. really, the account is going, that pink colored structures must be transferring away and are really a distinct colour. properly, desire this receives you pointed interior the right direction. Oh, on a more advantageous technical word, the Doppler Shift also should be noticable for recorders of alternative frequencies outdoors the seen an auditory spectrum. Theortically a gadget able to detecting shifts or ameliorations in freguency must be able to come across a shift from stated microwaves to radiowaves and so on etc as they are all aside of the electromagnetic spectra. Cheers mate.

I'm no Einstein, but I'll give it a shot:
As objects move toward each other at close to the speed of light, the light shifts in the blue direction (higher frequency); if they are moving away from each other at very high velocities, the light is shifted to the red direction (decreased frequency). (The analogy in sound is when the whistle from an approaching train sounds higher, and lower as it goes away)
When astronomers observe distant galaxies, they visible light shifts in the red direction - for all such galaxies. This is an indication that all of them are moving away from each other at a very high rate. Although it is hard to imagine an explosion where everything moves away from everything else, it is exactly what mathematics would predict for a massive and rapid expansion from a singular source. Thus, one origin, or a big bang
Hope that helps

The light from distant galaxy's shift towards red light. This means that they move away from us. The further away a galaxy is the more it's light shift to red. If for instance galaxy b is twice as far away from us as galaxy a, then galaxy b is also moving away from us with double the speed of galaxy a. This is consistent with the model of an expanding universe, where everything is moving away from everything and the density is decreasing. If you extrapolate the current situation, back in time, you will see that at some time, all matter in the universe must have been collected in one place.

Everyone has explained the redshift of distant stars and galaxies.
One theory is that all of them started from a single location. That is a basis for a big bang.
But if you look at this carefully that may not be true for the following reasons. Currently say for few years we are observing this expansion. we extrapolate this data to be true for 15 billion years. Which is highly unlikely.
Since the red shift is found in ever star may be the measurements are wrong.
If Redshift occurrence is true then it May be due to the decay of the light while traveling so long distance.
In all these above cases big bang would not have occurred.

Light is dopper shifted in such a way that it indicates that everything we look at is moving away from us (red shifted). The only logical conclusion is that we are in the middle of a slow motion explosion. Think of the raisins in an expanding loaf of raisin bread. They would all be moving away from each other, and everything we see is too.
