Ok as weirds as this sounds during recent exams when they have checked me to see what I am dialated,I tense up,it has been tender down there I guess and thats whats causing it to hurt. They told me I am 2-3cm dialated. Is it possible with me tensing up I could prolly be more dialated and they just couldnt tell? Or either way can they tell?

They can tell whether your tense or not..you have no control over your cervix being closed or dialated..

No, I don't think so but I'm not absolutely sure. I THINK your cervix is not a muscle so by you tensing up, it wouldn't make you less dilated. Your vaginal walls are a muscle, but that is not what they're measuring. Anyway, it is normal be be 1-3 cm dilated for even a couple weeks before you go into labor. I was 2 cm dilated for 2 whole weeks!

they can tell either way. Wow-2-3 cm dialated, what are you doing here, go pack and get ready to go have yourself a baby! Congratualtions and good luck!

When you are uncomfortable your cervix can close up, so you may be more dilated, but probably not. 2-3 is about normal before a second or susequent labour I think.

They can tell how dilated you are *at that moment* but it can change both ways.

Cervix isn't controlled by you honey, it's all natural. You can control the Kiegel muscles around the cervix but not the cervix.

They can tell how far you are dilated regardless of if you tense up or not.
