This link talks about it.
http://www.cmu.edu/teaching/resources/plagiarism.html

Its awesome. It lists tell sites, common signs, and basic strategies to bring plagiarism to its knees and then kill it off.

It shows lists of false ads to kids, and the poor work they recieve.
It shows lists of sites teachers frequent to check huge databases on known copied work for identical text.
It shows how to pick topics that make it very tough.

Its a beautiful site, read the link. Dont commit a crime.
Send a copy of the link to the teacher, and ask what they thought of it. You arent going to win awards for being sneaky, but you might earn respect by being straightforward and hard working.

What I would do if I was a teacher would be look for big words that you are using in your paper that you probably don't usually spell right or perhaps not even know the meaning to. Then I would do some simple internet searching to find that phrase with the included word. Once I find it, which shouldn't be hard to do especially since most cheaters will use the first website they find on Yahoo or Google search, I will print it off as proof and confront the student.

The other simpler way would be to use one of the software packages out there that most teachers have access to that will do all the searching for them and show if work is plagerism or not.

I suggest that you do your own work or if you are copying things off the net, you take the time to cite your work using quotations and give credit to the source you took it from. I think most teachers would be impressed if you were able to correctly cite your information as well as provide good insight of your own. Take the time to do it and rewards will be much greater than if you just copied work off the net.

A smart teacher usually checks the bibliographies of their students papers/projects to make sure that the information that they used in the paper was writen in their own words. Most of the time they become suspecious if a student "writes" a paper that usually does not sound like something that, that particular student is capable of writing.

First of all, we notice when a student's work is suddenly and violently not of their normal quality or level of writing. What I do is, I take the sentence or phrase that seems most unlikely to have been written by the student, and I Google it. This generally brings up the site the kid stole it from, and then I give them their well-deserved big fat F.

We teachers know our students and their writing strengths. If I suddenly receive an essay with great style and structure, and a use of language only found in universities or journals, then I would definitely question the student's integrity.

It's not hard for a teacher to tell when a student's work doesn't sound like the way that student thinks or writes.

They have a program in the computer at school and all they have to do is type in a few sentences and it shows all work from the Internet on it. They use it at Purdue University to catch people who plagiarize papers etc.

most of the time teachers know how students work and the things they say. when they plagerize, its obvious because it doesnt sound like the students work.
