Love 'em - been a fan since, well, before the first album as I was into The Nice and King Crimson - got to see ELP live twice - 1977 and 1978, on the second and third legs of the "Works" tour - also saw Emerson Lake & Powell, and the Greg Lake lineup of Asia - their website said (last time I checked) that there were no plans for a reunion/tour, but I wouldn't rule it out as an impossibility - favorite concert moment: at the end of "Nutrocker", a fairly inebriated Keith Emerson ran from his electric-piano spot at the top-right portion of the stage down to the very front of the stage, grabbed Greg Lake's microphone, and screamed to the crowd:
"YA LIKE THAT?!"
"YA REALLY LIKE THAT?!"
"YA WANNA HEAR IT AGAIN?!"
and then ran back up to the electric piano, kicked the piano stool off the side of the stage, and played the whole song again, even faster than the first time!

I thought that, in terms of quality, ELP were very mixed. For every classic like Trilogy, Tarkus and Brain Salad Surgery there was a bad album like Love Beach, Works or Pictures at an Exhibition. Although their poorer albums lack focus (and are often too experimental for their own good), their best tracks (most notably Karn Evil 9) manage to strike the fine balance between avant-gardism and going over the top.
Unfortunately, there is little chance of any new material or tours - Carl Palmer is back touring with the excellent Asia, and Greg Lake is currently on a solo UK tour.
However, in the September 2006 issue of Classic Rock Magazine, Lake is quoted as saying: "I don't hate the guys, and I would play with ELP again for charity; a Live 8-style situation is something that my conscience would force me to consider."

Found them a bit over-rated, I'm afraid (as Starfish said - a wee bit too experimental for their own good)...but like most of the same bands of the period (Yes, Genesis, Rush, Pink Floyd Gentle Giant and King Crimson - etc), they were indeed of their time...wonder if anyone remembers Johnny Rotten breaking a Tubular Bells album in half at a concert?

Great, powerful music, although I suspect Mr. Hammond (if there ever was such a person) probably didn't appreciate his product being attacked with knives. No idea what theyare doing now but a web search should answer that.
I still think America by the Nice was the best bit of pop instrumental ever.
