Not very well. If you watch the news programs, the moderates are not out for blood but they feel denigrated and upset that an educated and supposedly tolerant man could be so stupid as to inflame the radical factions of their religion by being careless with the words he chose to include in his speech.
It actually amazes me that the Pope, who must have speech writers, didn't think about the fact that speaking out about the one religion in the world that has terrorist extremists with no tolerance for any viewpoint (or for that matter -- religion) other than their own would be a foolhardy and dangerous thing to do!!
There is no way to teach peace to war mongers. The people he seeks to teach believe in martyrdom through the sword!
I actually feel bad for the Pope because I truly believe he didn't mean to inflame or anger anyone. I think he just got caught with his foot in his mouth.

I'm not muslim, but can I just make the point that the Pope didn't make any negative comments about muslims himself, he quoted a ruler from a few hundered years ago. I continueously said "I quote" rather than I think, and he didn't say anything that would give anybody the impression that he agreed with the ruler he was quoting.

Moderates know the pope's going to hell and let it be. The extremists are still fighting to convince themselves
