rapist should be put away for life. i know child molesters etc who get 3 months in jail. what makes me sick is you can get 7 years for stealing a car but only a few months or a couple of years for rape .. they are scared for life.. it's not like the car thief is going to be walking down the road 7 years later and the car will see him get so scarred it drives it's self off in fear

I think there are some people who think rape is not a crime. There are a lot of people who are warped as he** and believe just about anything. That is why there are jails and mental institutions. These people generally BELONG in jail or in an insitution in my opinion. I don't think people like this are likely to change either. It's a sad fact that there are people out there who believe things are ok and that people can just "get over it." I agree that people should not dwell on things that have happened to them and that there is help out there for these people and they can live normal lives but crime is crime and it affects the victim whether it's rape or they are a victim of a burgulary or whatever. It's just really really sad.

Just because someone said there are worse things to live through doesn't mean they think rape isn't a crime. Unfortunately, there are some ignorant people who think women "caused" a rapist to attack them because of the clothes they wore, the way they acted, etc. It's called blaming the victim. There is no excuse for rape. Every person is responsible for his or her own actions.

Rape can be many things. Rape, I presume in the context you imply is the forced sexual act or the act of having you clothes torn off. Rape is far more than that. It is the violation of the person or the ideal without consent. So is rape of a person the worse crime, it is a hideous crime...but we are allowing the rape of many things these days. Rape of good, rape of our judicial system, rape of our freedoms, (including freedom of speach). So is rape the greatest crime...yes it is and it is far more reaching then the scope in which this question is being raised. If you want to stop rape...stand up for what is right, what those before you have died for in order to protect. Stand up and be counted or you are allowing yourself to be raped of your basic rights.

Rape is not considered a crime by those who commit the crime ,just as killers or serial killers feel they are compelled or justified in doing these terrible violent crimes.Yes some in polite society engage in blaming the victim, saying things like "well the victim was asking for it in some way". There is no moral or legal justification for these attitudes.

Rape is a horrible crime. It is not just the physical assault that is terrible, but also the extreme psychological and emotional pain that many victims feel long after the attack. Oh, and birdsnake...I was raped and would gladly watch my rapist's head be set on fire. And I'm a liberal. Please stop lumping people together just because they share a title and/or agree on a few things.

That's exactly why the majority of rapes are not reported. Survivors have been pre-conditioned by our society to believe that they somehow did something to warrant the attack. Most people don't believe there was rape if no visible injury occurred. Don't wonder, get educated and educate!

Well, ask a Holocaust survivor which is worse. Being raped is pretty bad, but I'm sure there're some worse things than getting raped, though. You can probably count them with one hand, that's how few there are.

There are most assuredly worse things to live through. However, it doesn't take long to get to rape on that list.

awful and takes away a bit of your soul. I think socioty trys to harden you and thats why some people dont think its that serious
