The dimmer will consume all the electricity saved by not having the light on at 100%. Instead, use a 75 watt lamp rated for 140/150 volts. That will not acquire the full brightness because you have only 110, so you get a reduction in light to about 60 watts and a savings in electricity.
Some of the home stores sell these bulbs, but you might have to go to a special lighting store to buy them, a company that sells only specialized light bulbs.

seams it would be same. but, cost of a 100 w bulb is more than a 60 w bulb at the store.......so, you already lost ground at the start..........
