George Harrison- overrated
Rickey Medlocke- underrated
Don Barnes- underrated
I'm not dogging the Stones or the Beatles but get real, there tunes aren't known for having killer lead rides.
Rickey Medlocke now plays for Skynyrd. Before that he was in a band called BlackFoot. Rickey can hang with the best of them.
Don Barnes is the lead singer and lead guitarist for 38 special. He took over as the lead guitarist after Jeff Carlisi left(another underrated guitar god) He not only has done a good job covering Jeff's leads, He has mastered some killer leads of his own on new material. I've seen Don & Rickey play in concert both are awsome guitarist!

Overrated: Pick any from most of todays rock bands. The lack of talented musicians today is why most of the current music sucks. Without computers,drum pads,synthetic sounds most bands would be lost. There are one or two exceptions. Most of todays so-called metal guitarists are terrible...they turn up distortion to muffle their inability to play. In general,the best guitarists are blues players. Plenty of amazing talent in that genre.
Underrated: By people who know music he isnt underrated,but most of the general public probably doesnt know this guy. Robert Cray. He is a blues man and one of the best ever. He is respected by the best..Clapton,Satriani,Santana,and the late great Stevie Ray Vaughn all name Cray as one of the best. Pretty good company there. Grab one of his CDs and throw on some good headphones....catch a buzz(your choice of how to get the buzz..lol)and kick back and listen to some amazing riffs and he has a very good voice to boot. Just my opinion. Just read a few...amazing that anyone could call Jimi Hendrix overrated....wow.

Dave Mustaine of Megadeth is the most underated. He is one of the true greats of thrash metal which places him well in the running of best guitarist ever.
