I'm painting walls in a bedroom, but not the ceiling. It's got an acoustic ceiling (please no "scrape it down" advice, not in the plans). Is it possible to tape off the edge of the ceiling so I don't get the wall color on it? Will the tape stick without pulling the ceiling material down when I take it off?

You really need to tarp or tape on the top of the wall itself. I dont know if they make a tape that sticks to the acoustic. After you pain to the top of the wall, pull the tape, and paint the corner of the ceiling/wall by hand. The acoustic makes it really easy to paint right there. If you are not confident enough to do it by hand, you can get a cut tool. It just looks like a large piece of thin metal with a handle. You sort of lean it against the corner and pain up to the metal. It makes a nice line. Good luck.

Don't use tape it will pull the acoustic off. Cut in with a brush, just take your time and have a steady hand, you can use any straight edge tool that you have to help you cut in
