why do countries like russia and brazil appear in top fifteen countries with high GDP but they also have low GDP per capita(below top 50)

because the GDP is the amount of money the country earns in a year....and the GDP per capita (per head) is that money shaerd between all the people in that country...so although brazil might earn lots of money (GDP) that has to be shared by all the people living there

Because they both have large populations (about 140 million). Truly wealthy countries, in contrast, tend to be small. The country with world's highest per capita GDP, Luxembourg, has a population of less than 500,000. Sweden, whose GDP per capita is on par with that of the U.S., has a population of about nine million. Switzerland, whose GDP per capita is substantially higher than that of the U.S., has a population of about seven and a half million.

Simply because the GDP per capita is the GDP divided by the total population, and both Brazilian and Russian populations are very large (more than 150.000.000)
