We did this as a class project one time. We launched 100 balloons. We got 8 cards back, one from 150 miles away.

Hi. Launch from LA? pretty good. Launch from Boston? Not so good. Balloons tend to travel eastward. Besides, just a PO box doesn't let people find you. "PO box 147"

Building off of screaming eagle, you probably would pop the balloon if you put your PO Box on it, and eventually, unless you tried to launch it somewhere hard to reach, someone would probably find it.

small, if it is a regular latex or rubber baloon, they tend to explode once they reach a high enough atmosphere. Mylar ballonshowever, have a good chance, if they are not sucked into a jet engine, or wind up in the stomach of some sea creature. Think before sendingballoons aloft . You may be killing something by doing so.
