Oh yeah, and I discovered Oregon when I moved here, and I could discover France if I went there.

People from Finland made it even before Columbus! And Native people were here for who knows how long! and some people say they came from Asia.

LOL! that is the saddest attribution of US history that we still teach our children that Columbus discovered North America. Well, it goes along with the rest of our constructed history lessons...

In a word - Yes.

I realize that many other explorers came to America first, but Columbus was the only one to colonize and set-up trade relations between the new world and Europe with the indigenous people living in the Caribean at the time.

No. That whole "discovery" thing is just a cover for European racism and exploitation during colonial conquests. The Americas were not a vacant lot. They were not "discovered" they were invaded. If anyone deserves any credit, give it to the Native People who lived here before the Vikings showed up.

NO!

1. The Vikings were the first Europeans to settle on the continent.
2. He was*so* lost. He thought he was someplace else entirely. What a loser.

And none of this even takes into account the Native Americans and their fore-fathers.
