This has already been covered, even if you divide zero by zero, you won't get anything (not even 1). It is physicaly impossible to divide a number by zero. You don't get a result.
PS: whoever is puting a thumbs down on all the answers please stop.

Division by zero is an operation for which you cannot find an answer, so it is disallowed. You can understand why if you think about how division and multiplication are related.
12 divided by 6 is 2 because
6 times 2 is 12
12 divided by 0 is x would mean that
0 times x = 12
But no value would work for x because 0 times any number is 0. So division by zero doesn't work.

The division is not defined when divisor is zero. So 3/0 does not exist, -17/0 does not exist and 0/0 does not exist too.
When the question is about limit of functions it may appear something like 0/0... but this is not a number or a division... it is only the information that both part of the fraction is tending to zero... tending to zero is not to be zero... it is getting near and near(forever) zero.

It's not zero.. because the statement is erroneous, you cannot divide by zero at all, so 0 divided by 0 is not 0, it is nonexistent.
Note:
You CAN, however, divide zero by another number..
So 0 divided by 8 = 0

0 is a number. as somebody feels like 0 is nothing, that is wrong. it is something whose value is nothing. that means it has no notable value. 0 is the number which fills the pitfall in mathematics. and it is found by the great indians.
so don't feel embarassed to get the answer. it is INFINITY.
since there is no value for the number, and when it is parted for no value, its value becomes infinity-not undeterminable.
as i have always stated, maths is the first science man has ever evolved and it is purely based on commonsense and counting.
good luck.

ANY (including zero) number divided by zero is considered an illegal operation because it will give an infinite value.
Examine this:
Let x=y,
multiply by x,
x^2 = xy
subtract y^2,
x^2-y^2 = xy-y^2
factor,
(x-y)(x+y) = y(x-y)
divide by (x-y), (note: x-y = 0) a division by zero
x+y = y
since x=y, therefore,
y+y=y
2y=y or 2 = 1.
Therefore, you can not divide a number by zero.

Zero is not a number; zero is nothing. Division by nothing does not make sense, which is why the operation is undefined and the result is indeterminate.

0/0 can be equal to anything between 0 and infinitely large numbers, +ve or -ve.
In fact, 0/0 falls into a class of six so called "Indeterminate Types of Numbers":
0/0,
0 X Infinity,
0^0,
[Infinity]/[Infinity],
[Infinity - Infinity],
[Infinity]^[Infinity].
Each of which equals to any number between 0 and infinitely large numbers +ve or -ve.
You should consult chapter on limits in some good book on Calculus.

You can't divide by zero. It is undefined. If it was allowed you could prove 1=2.
