What your co-worker said is just plain ol' fluff! That isn't true at all...all the cars in NASCAR have a reverse, and they do use it at times! Sometimes they miss their pit box, sometimes they need to back out of their garage (after repairs), and sometimes they crash into a wall or get in a big wreck with other cars and need to back up! If you watch long enough during a race, you will probably eventually see a car go in reverse.

as everyone has pointed out, yes they have reverse. nascars have a minimum weight requirement. they try to get as light as possible but they cannot get below a certain weight. so extreme measures like removing reverse are not neccasary and are not legal in nascar anyway.
if reducing weight was that big of an issue then Joe Gibbs would have had Tony Stewart on Jenny Craig.

Yes they do. Some of the local small class dirt track cars have reverse removed for weight. But this is not allowed for obvious reasons at a NASCAR sanctioned track!

Yes they do have reverse. How do you think that get out of the pits if they are blocked in. Or off the wall if they hit it .

I guess you need to watch more racing, your friend has obviously never watched NASCAR.
If you ever watch practice, they back out of their garage stalls all the time, as they come and go after making adjustments.
Plus, they do back up on pit road if they overshoot their pit stall. They also back up on the track after a wreck or a win, depending on how they celebrate.

yes they do have reverse gear..because if they over shot their pit how would they get there then? or got spun out and ended up facing the wall..how would they other wise get out of that situation..

to ga gurl--I think you might be refering to Alan Kulwicki, who drove what he called the Polish Victory Lap. It wasn't in reverse, he merely drove the opposite direction. I've never heard of anyone driving a victory lap in reverse.
