Sorry to hear about the problem with you cat. Sounds like it started off as a minor injury and just got worse from there. I get the impression that you are alone with this. Even if your Dad did give up the smoking, the money is already spoken for. Is there any animal shelter within reach to which you can take the cat? I'm thinking of a shelter rather than a vet as they are more likely to take your cat on and not charge you beyond your means. However you might have to face up to the fact that your cat will not recover. This will be a difficult time for you, especially if you get little or no support in this at home. You must remember that you have to do the best for your cat who has relied on you during her life up to now. I understand what you are going through, last summer we lost one of our cats who had an inoperable bowel tumour, although the development of his condition was slowed by drugs. He was active and seemed "happy" right to the end, although I do wonder whether we kept him going for just a bit too long.

I just injured my foot a couple weeks ago and it turned out to be a 3rd degree sprain (the muscle pulled a pice of bone when it twisted causing a fracture) and they told me to rotate ice and heat for a half hour at a time. So I would say to try that.

Ice for the injury. for 15 minutes 2-3 times a day. Later you, should begin using heat, particularly if you are going to do some activity involving the injured area.

you need to alternate between the two, 20 minutes ice, 20 minutes off, 20 minutes heat.....all while being elevated, which is above your heart! Here is why:

The ice reduces the inflammation because the fluids that the body sends out to do the repair work moves towards heat....this way your body flushes out the excess healing fluid.

The heat increases blood flow so it helps speed the healing process, the excess fluids are drawn away quicker.

After years of practice our Chinese teachers told us to take a hot tub. There are anumber of medicines (Chinese traditonal)
you rub on your foot.
I still have some Iodine which I was given.
Ice blocks will reduce the swellings.

You did not state the exact location but I guess its around the ankle.
So use the ice as a first remedy. but a hot bath feels just as good.

If you have an open wound, (hope not) then you should see the doctor.

If I remember my basic first aid.

Ice suppresses the bruising.
Heat helps with healing.

First suppress the brusing, but don't over do it. A bandage can also help compress here. (RICE - Rest, Ice, Compress and Elevate)

The next day work on the healing.

But if you have broken something... see a Dr. for an Xray.

BTW: IANAD - BIYWYLMTGMAC (I am not a Doctor, but if you want your lawn mowed, then give me a call :-)
