An absolutely honest consultant is all most people would be happy with, i don't think i need to clarify on that point to you.
Another thing, advertising jobs that don't exist just to get people's cv's - tut, tut!!

I have worked a consultant myself for a short while, I fell into this role, it wasnt planned. I started off as an administrator and within a couple of months I had moved to another branch as a consultant. I wasn't spurned on by the commision, du to it being low, so I saw the candidates as people who where looking to start a career and not as ££££. I felt it the most important thing was to match the candidate to the client and the role that was available and also keep in contact with both parties. I also feel a successfull consultant is one who keeps clients and candidates happy. I left the job due to the travelling and I am now working in an admin role which I am happy with.

Just to clarify here .. consultants dont recieve any comission for placing Temps into jobs. Its the perms that rake it in. eg. my partner is a rec consultant .. and if she places ONE perm into a booking shes looking at about 250 quid bonus. Now for temps they dont get jack.

they try to wear you down, and convince you to take temporary contract jobs at low pay rather than hold out for a perm. position more related to your field. The candidates are not dumb. We know you are getting paid a specific amount to fill the position. And that you are keeping part of our pay for yourself!

In most cases they don't have an expertise needed to discuss my technical skills, education and experience. They can't even ask appropriate questions. And still they try.

they (most) care more about earning their comission by placing a job candidate then whether the candidate is really a good fit for the job.

They tell lies, put you forward for jobs you do not necessarily want to go for. All for the commission. They don't call you back to give feedback.
