Depends on what you mean by possession.

Is it concealed ?

Is it in a back pack out of "immediate" reach?

Is it in plain view, in a sheathe, strapped to your waist?

Is it in your hand and you're about to wack somebody with it.

I think there is possession and then there is possession with intent to do X?

So, therefore I think the consequences are different depending on your method of possession and likely intent
