It can be a problem, that old wives crap about 8 glasses a day is bogus anyway. I don't think God would have made so much of the world desert if we needed that much water....The idea is to drink enough so your urine is clear not yellow....flushes out more toxins that way, and for you to never really be thirsty. Water is a great way to fill up and if more people drank a glass of water right before a meal we wouldn't have so many people overweight.

I'm sure that too much water can be bad for you...but three litres should be fine. My friend was on a doctor prescribed diet where she HAD to drink at least 3 litres of water every day as part of the programme. Just be careful though because you can lose nutrients and body fats (yippee for some, but others are essential!) if you do this over a long period of time.
Personally, hat off to you - i tried drinking that much water in a day for a week and i was a serious effort (that and i spend so much time on the loo it got ridiculuous! lol)
Happy water drinking! x x

3 litres is fine, most americans dont drink enough water at all. One litre is about 1/4 of the daily amount most people need to drink to be healthy. The body is approx 75% water (just like the planet!) you need water, water is GOOD for you. Drinking lots of water often will actually clean your insides out, clean insides lead to cleaner outsides. Drinking lots of water is GOOD.
It is possible to drink too much yes, users of certain drugs get dehydrated and diew from over drinking.
3 litres is fine, as long as you are urinating in proportion to the amount you are drinking. If its "not going through you" then you should worry. If everythign is normal, than 3 litres is fine.
1 litre a day is actually quite poor, your friends are dehydrated. They may fall prey to certain illnesses later in life, that you may avoid.
So in essense, just stay as you are.

It seems as if we could never drink enough water. After all, aren't we always being told to drink more water?
That's not always the case for ultra-endurance athletes who spend long hours exercising. Sometimes, drinking too much water can actually be a problem. If they flood their bodies with excess water, thus lowering their sodium levels, in rare cases, they may fall victim to a potentially fatal condition called hyponatremia.
Experts define hyponatremia as low sodium concentration in the body, specifically the extra-cellular fluid which is the blood and the fluid around the body's cells. When someone becomes hyponatremic, their sodium level falls below normal.

Yes, you can. We have a balance of electrolytes(sodium, potassium, etc...) that is necessary to maintain body functions. If you drink too much water, you can dilute those in the blood. Problems can arise when someone has decreased kidney or cardiac function due to illness or advanced age. It's usually not a problem in healthy people, so drink up. Most people don't drink enough water.

3 litres a day won't kill you - i think its the total reccommended intake - but including your food too. The guy who said thirst is a guide - your thirst is actually a very innacurate way of telling how much liquid you need. many people are actually thirsty when they think they are hungty etc. Drinking a lot does work your kidneys quite hard but you'll have less toxins than your friends. Ask a doctor?

It can be, yes.
Three litres is nowhere near too much though! Lots of water will keep you healthy, and is far better than too much coffee or tea.
However, if you are in a situation where you are sweating a lot (exercising, dancing, in high summer) then it is possible to drink too much - It's called hyponatraemia. A famous English actor (Anthony Andrews) famously drank too much (I think about 8 litres in two hours) and lost so much salt and electrolytes from his blood system that he nearly killed himself.

However, under normal circumstances (like yours) this is highly unlikely to happen and lots of water can only be good for you - flush out all those nasty toxins and keep your bod clean and healthy!

It is most certainly possible. Thirst is a pretty reliable guide. Eight glasses a day can be too much. Let thirst be your guide. Drink water only if you're thirsty. (Exception: drink water as a substitution ro diet or to stop smoking.)
