Fuel his planes. How does that work?
Will he not plan for any growth? will he not replace aging equipment? I doubt it! How then is it all of his profit? Also the media says he might make money from this, how is that if all his profit is going to the green alternatives? does this smell fishy or what?

Just like how green alternatives fuel our cars. It's a good idea. He might be looking at ethanol subsitutes or electric planes with solar conversion - but these are some of the alternatives.
Richard Branson has tons of other businesses out there - so he can use those to finance the growth of his airline business - if he finds he needs external financial backing.
About equipment replacement - when a company reports profits, they deduct the cost of equipment maintenance and replacement. It's part of the operating costs. Whatever they don't spend in over head (maintenance, personnel, marketing and maybe even expansion) is reported as profit. The 'profit' doesn't get eaten up by the stockholders or by Richard - except maybe in the salary that he pays himself.
How can he make money from this? It's free advertising. The name of his company is being trumpted throughout the media - like the Virgin soda drink, Virgin phones, Virgin limos (to name a few). Companies need marketing/advertising to prosper. So good old Richard here is playing the media again. He's a genius... if not anything else. Don't let his clean green image fool ya. It's all business - but I doubt it's anything necessarily fishy going on there.
Side note: The airline industry isn't the most lucartive. Chances are, he's not making that much. But it's a glamorous industry - like entertainment and can easily generate attention. So, instead of operating at minimal profit or loss, why not generate a nice advertising campaign that will give the people the warm and fuzzies - by saying all the profit (which could be negigible or minimal) will go toward the environment.
Hope this answers your question.

Are you lot kidding me!! Do you think they are worried about money at this moment in time when their daughter has disappeared and for the rest of their lives they will have to live with the consequences. How do you know if Richard Branson doesn't give pots of money to charities anyway. You see, every body is jealous yet they have become successful by hard work and taking risks, just so everybody can try taking it all away with them. If it wasn't for these people earning shed loads and paying taxes at 40% this country would be bust. Whilst the father of Madelaine is busy trying to find his daughter he is not working which means another hospital and it's patients suffering as well. This man is a top doctor for god's sake. The Portuguese police are an embarrassment. Bungling idiots. My wife's friend married a Portuguese man and moved over there. when she had a baby it was a blond boy and his family said to her that she should never leave the boy out of her sight because babies like that get stolen. Remember Ben going missing in Spain all those years ago - never to be found. A blond baby over their is like a golden ticket to a certain travelling community.
