I was looking at Fender Strats, Epiphone Les Pauls, Ibanez RGs, and basically anything below $500. I don't know what would be the best. HELP!

I would try the Epiphone series by Gibson...I used an Epiphone SG that was pretty flexible sound wise and was under $400!

Play whatever is comfortable to you. The sound quality you get from a guitar, even electrics with lots of processing, comes from your hands, not the guitar, effects and amp.

take look at Jims then take a look at Zeps then pick the one you like best when your bank account get fat from all that music you will be able to afford like anything you want , get good with one then practice to get good with both

go to your local guitar center. the people there are almost always trained and or musicians who love to help!
