It really depends on the situation and the definition of torture.
To put things in perspective, most people would consider being locked up in a small room with horrible people, bad food, abuse etc..for life to be torture. However, what else are we going to do with criminals?
Someone would not be tortured if they gave up the info that would save the lives, right?

Depends on if the threat is imminent and the direct knowelgde that the perp had the information.
If I did use torture I would be willing to accept the consequences/ loss of job and or jail time.

If a terrorist had information on an upcoming attack, I would do whatever is necessary to get the information out of him. I may be told I'm "lowering myself" to be just like the terrorists, but at least the people who call me that will still be alive to say it.

We as Americans must maintain higher standards. We are the pace setters after all. So to answer your question No. If we torture then we are just like the enemy.
