When Rap Music first became popular mainly black people listened to it. Over the years white people who have been fans of Modern American Music of which black have created began to like it also. They started to wonder about inner city life. This gave way to many a story telling Brotha', but white suburban kids liked the stories no matter if they weren't true they liked it and it sold records.
Time went on and many rappers got caught in this fairy tale music scene, as a result kids starting acting more vulgar to shock the audiences to make the sales of their predecessors.
I can understand how many intelligent black women can take offense to some lyrics in today's music. I seriously doubt any of these performers were brought up by their mother saying these words.

THANK YOU!!! Ice-T was the first one to glorify the pimp lifestyle back in the late 80's and early 90's, and most people don't realize that he actually started out as an actual pimp! Then, NWA and Snoop took the degradation of black women to a whole new level by making it the standard for rap music. Now, degrading black women and calling them b*tches and hoes has become the rap standard, to the point where people think it's cool for white artists to do it. This is not acceptible! Historically, American black women have been, and are, degraded more than any other cultural group on the planet. Right here on Y!Answers, type in "black women" and look at all of the ignorant questions and responses that people have posted. The media perpetuates this image. The last thing that we need is other black people, a.k.a. rappers, adding to the stereotype that black women are all b*tches and hoes and should be treated no better than animals. It's time to stop the madness!

Well that's enough to make me smile for awhile. I was starting to think women didn't care how degrading rap is. But yes, besides being repetitive single minded crap that hasn't had an original recording for 10 years, it puts a bad stigma on pretty much all women. When I was in school guys used to sit there singing along to some crap about doing all kinds of things to "hoes", (can you say hoes here?) and their girlfriends or friends that are girls just went with it or didn't care. It made me sick. This is why homecoming dances used to put me in a state of depression too.

Rap doesn't cause it, but definitely promotes and epitomizes the degeneration of ethics and any kind of morals among youth. And as long as dumb boys want to be gangsters and silly girls want to be silly girls, rap or the driving force behind it (crotch grabbing and simple explicit lyrics) will survive.

And to Nossty, an earlier answerer, you're wrong, I care. Watch this question and see if others don't care.

I think that a lot of music in this day and age promotes sex, degrades women and causes a lot of confusion in the youth of today! It can't be pinpointed to just rap. Rock has been doing it for a while too.... I think that parents should take a step back from their 9-5 jobs and check if their kids are ok. Make sure they listen to the right music, and are involved in activities that would promote their overall wellbeing instead of running around causing havoc. The first step should start from home.

Yes. Rap promotes degradation of black women and dance music does the same to white women. Can't they sell the music on it's own merits, or is it really that bad?
