Being smart doesn't necessarily mean you're smart in all areas. People are smart in different ways. Some people are book-smart but they do incredibly stupid things socially. Don't narrow down "being smart" to mean one thing, there are lots of people with high IQs who are complete morons.

because they are too damn smart to know the difference between stupid and good. Smart people usually are a bit short on common sense. A generality yes, but it is true.

Why do smart people do stupid things ? ( like what I am doing now ? miming you hehehe) well... i dont think there such a thing as pure intellectuals I believe.. so people in general, smart or otherwise tend to do stupid things.. and it also depends on how you rate stupidity that is .

,smart can limit to scholastic, or life's lessons (street smarts) we as humans learn from our mistakes, if someone chooses to perform with foreknowledge of wronged deeds this person is considered stupid,this applys to all humans animals.with no reguard to I.Q.

Because they get bored. Remember back to your school days, and think about the kid who didn't have the best grades, but made all A's without studying. He probably got in trouble for goofing off, talking, acting up, etc. He was bored. School didn't challenge him.
